When New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect as well as his loved ones.
We've always known that Spider-Man's most important conflict has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that his greatest battle is about to begin. It's great to be Spider-Man. For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen. But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro, Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn, returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.
I went to watch the second part of Mark Webb&#39;s Spider-Man franchise yesterday. As it&#39;s precedent it stars Adrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Sally Field as Aunt May. Both Martin Sheen and Dennis Leary who portrayed Uncle Ben and Captain Stacy make cameo appearances in this film as well. The film also introduce new characters; Max Dillon/Electro (Jamie Foxx), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino (Paul Giamatti)and Felicia Hardy (Felicity Jones). Unlike it&#39;s previous film the musician is Hanz Zimmer, who replaced James Horner.<br/><br/>The actors&#39;s performances are outstanding, specially by actors Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Garfield&#39;s body-language is better than Maguire&#39;s and he is way more curious, funny and emotional. Although Tobey Maguire was a great Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Garfield is a notch better. Emma Stone is a great choice to portray Gwen Stacy. The chemistry between her and Garfield is outstanding. Sally Field&#39;s performance as Aunty May/May Parker is marvelous and she has a bigger role in this one than it&#39;s previous venture. She is very secretive and is kind of a selfish woman who hides a lot of things for her nephew Peter. Jamie Foxx who portrayed Dillon was great even though the character is portrayed by a black actor. Dane DeHaan who played Harry Osborn/Green Goblin was good. Not as great as James Franco to play Harry Osborn, but better than Willem Dafoe to play Green Goblin.<br/><br/>The film&#39;s storyline is well-built and it&#39;s more credible to the comic books than the previous Spider-Man films. It digs deeper about Peter Parker&#39;s past and his parents&#39;s disappearance. It&#39;s more humorous, more emotional and it has a more darker tone which keeps the film interesting to watch. The costumes are stylish and more high-tech and the CGI effects are amazing. However, I felt that the final battle between Spider-Man and Electro maybe had a bit too much effects. Even though the scenes where we see Spider-Man swinging around New York City is epic, I still miss James Horner&#39;s music. Zimmer&#39;s music is cool, but I felt that it wasn&#39;t that suitable as Horner&#39;s tunes.<br/><br/>The movie is simply amazing and it deserves to be watched in the cinemas. Two thumbs way up!
It&#39;s been awhile since a movie has made me feel as bipolar as TASM2. At times I&#39;m fully engaged, and at other times I&#39;m wondering, &quot;Is this the worst superhero movie ever?&quot; The spectacle and intrigue are present, and the comic-booky look of the film provides some theme-park-ride-like fun. Nonetheless, TASM2&#39;s chaotic editing, over directing, and misguided stylization left me in a web of frustration. TASM2 catches up with Peter, aka Spider-Man, as he&#39;s settling into his hero-role, all the while dealing with regular teenage life (girlfriend, graduation, etc). But as is wont to happen in superhero tent-poles, a few big baddies show up to ruin Spidey&#39;s day. Giamatti cameos as The Rhino; DeHaan plays Harry Osbourne, heir to the evil Oscorp fortune; and Foxx is mild-mannered Max, who falls into a vat of eels and becomes Electro because, ya know…SCIENCE! Nothing and no one is given any amount of time to develop with simply too many stories and too many characters to manage. Worst of all is the atrocious score. For one glaring example, Electro&#39;s theme music is composed of goofy bumbling horns, backed by sinister choir vocals singing his very thoughts (&quot;What&#39;s happening to me!&quot; &quot;I hate Spider-Man!&quot;). A score shouldn&#39;t be overtly noticeable, but especially not overtly bad. Again, some stuff works. Garfield is still a better Spidey than Tobey Maguire ever was, and the icon heavy imagery during the final big battle is beautifully handled. Unfortunately these positives only serve to add to the irritation, that there is a decent reboot to be made here. Regrettably the spidey senses weren&#39;t tingling for this one.
Marc Webb, returning after the last instalment, again shows a better feel for the relationships than he does for juggling all the overlapping story elements.
Electro is the major villain. Harry Osborn later becomes the Green Goblin. Rhino also appears to confront Spider-Man at the end of the film. No, he never even appeared onscreen in this series. He was mentioned a number of times and Peter Parker sent him an e-mail to rethink Spider-Man&#39;s negative publicity. Jameson responds with an e-mail reading, &quot;WRONG&quot;. <a href="/name/nm0940362/">Shailene Woodley</a> had been cast to play Mary-Jane Watson, but all of her scenes were removed from the final film. It was decided her character was not essential to this story. There is no post/mid-credits scene expanding the events from The Amazing Spider-Man 2&quot; There was an X-Men: Days of Future Past preview that was shown in theaters, but it is not available in Blu-ray/DVD releases. Stan Lee is seen at Peter and Gwen&#39;s graduation. When Peter&#39;s name is called, he says, &quot;I think I know that guy.&quot; The idea was for the two villains Doctor Octopus and the Vulture to later appear in a spinoff for the Sinister Six. This series was prematurely discontinued and followed by another reboot, so the film about the supervillains teaming up with each other was shelved, while the reboot has nothing to do with these Spider-Man movies at all. Marc Webb had planned this series as a trilogy and thought he would return to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3 which was originally scheduled for release on June 10th, 2016. Sony Pictures then decided to delay it from being released until sometime in 2017. An agreement was eventually made with Marvel Studios to have Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—vis-à-vis <a href="/title/tt3498820/">Captain America: Civil War (2016)</a> (2016)—and in 2017 with <a href="/title/tt2250912/">Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)</a> coming out in the month that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would have been released in 2016.
